The 20th Heart Center Open Day, which was conducted under the motto "Strong Teams for Weak Hearts", offered a number of real highlights, which included the live transmission from the Heart Center of moving 3D images, heart sounds and x-ray images onto an 8m x 9m projection screen inside the Paulus-Praetorius-Gymnasium (grammar school). This section contains photos from the Department of Anesthesiology, Intensive Care Medicine and Pain Management. Anesthetists and Intensive Care specialists are responsible for monitoring a patient's vital functions, both during a procedure and afterwards. Our interdisciplinary Intensive Care Unit offers modern technology and devices to help support the functions of different organs within the body. Additional images


Every year, approximately 4,300 cardiac procedures are performed in our catheterization laboratories. These minimally-invasive procedures are performed via small incisions in the groin or via the apex of the heart, and range from ablation procedures to heart valve replacement procedures. These photos will provide a glimpse of what happens during catheterization procedures. Additional images


Every year, approximately 1,500 open heart procedures are performed at the Brandenburg Heart Center, which require the use of cardiopulmonary bypass (a heart-lung machine). The majority of open heart procedures involve bypass graft surgery and heart valve surgery, but also include combined procedures. The Brandenburg Heart Center forms part of the Immanuel Hospital Bernau. Every year, 1,500 open heart surgery procedures and more than 4,300 catheterization procedures are performed at our Heart Center. Our approach to patient care is both professional and personal.
