Every year, approximately 1,500 open heart procedures are performed at the Brandenburg Heart Center, which require the use of cardiopulmonary bypass (a heart-lung machine). The majority of open heart procedures involve bypass graft surgery and heart valve surgery, but also include combined procedures.
