Services offered
With 1,500 open heart surgery procedures and more than 6,400 catheterization procedures per year, Brandenburg Heart Center is one of the leading cardiac units in Germany. Please read on to find out more about the services we offer.

Our patients can feel secure in the knowledge that the Brandenburg Heart Center has 20 years of experience in providing expert medical and nursing care. The interdisciplinary approach and close cooperation between the Departments of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery is a key factor in this respect, optimizing patient safety and offering maximum reassurance.
Every year, over 5,000 cardiothoracic procedures are performed at our Center. These involve a whole variety of up-to-date, minimally-invasive procedures. We also specialize in providing comprehensive treatment for heart failure, as well as providing a comprehensive program of home monitoring.
We have an ongoing program of research aimed at developing new clinical procedures. Results from our research have been presented at a large number of national and international meetings, as well as having published both nationally and internationally. As a result of this, we are able to offer our patients the very latest in treatment concepts in addition to the more established treatment options.
24h emergency treatment for heart attack
Our hospital's catheterization laboratory is staffed around the clock to provide emergency treatment for patients with acute heart attack (myocardial infarction). This service is provided by our Chest Pain Unit (CPU), which has been certified by the German Cardiac Society (Gesellschaft für Kardiologie). More
How is heart disease diagnosed?
Determining the exact nature of a patient's heart problems usually involves a number of diagnostic steps, and a broad range of diagnostic techniques, ranging from blood tests to cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging. More

Aortic aneurysm
An aortic aneurysm is a dilation (ballooning) of part of the aorta, that can occur either in sections of the aorta running through the chest or the abdomen. If undiagnosed, an aortic aneurysm can become life-threatening. more

These therapy options can help:
-
Mitral regurgitation
schliessen
Mitral regurgitation
Mitral regurgitation is a relatively common condition where the atrioventricular valve between the left atrium and left ventricle of the heart fails to close properly. more
These therapy options can help:
-
Mitral valve stenosis
schliessen
Mitral valve stenosis
Mitral valve stenosis is relatively rare, and is characterized by a narrowed (stenotic) mitral valve between the left atrium This type of valve disease is not very common. more
These therapy options can help:
-
Myocarditis
schliessen
Myocarditis
The term myocarditis refers to any inflammatory condition affecting the heart muscle. These inflammatory conditions may be caused by viruses or bacteria but may also be caused by certain poisons and medicines. more
-
Pericarditis
schliessen
Pericarditis
Pericarditis is an inflammation of the protective sac surrounding the heart (pericardium), which is made up of connective tissue. Pericarditis may result in chest pain and is usually treated with medication. more
These therapy otions can help:
-
Peripheral arterial disease
schliessen
Peripheral arterial disease
Peripheral arterial disease, a condition also referred to as "smoker's leg" or "window shopper's disease" in German, is characterized by impaired blood flow to the extremities. more
These therapy options can help:
-
Atrial septal defect
schliessen
Atrial septal defect
This congenital defect affects the wall (septum) separating the two atria, or upper chambers of the heart. This defect leads to blood flowing from the left into the right side of the heart - and may cause heart failure. more

What types of treatment do we offer?
-
Aortic surgery
schliessen
Aortic surgery
If an aneurysm develops, i.e. if part of the aorta enlarges and balloons out, the aorta is at risk of rupturing. Stents or prostheses can be used to prevent this from occurring. more
Aortic surgery can help with the following conditions:
-
Bypass surgery
schliessen
Bypass surgery
During bypass surgery, vessel grafts are used to bypass narrowed sections in the coronary arteries. This ensures that sufficient amounts of oxygen and blood can reach the heart. more
Bypass surgery can help with the following conditions:
-
Carotid artery surgery
schliessen
Carotid artery surgery
In a patient presenting with severe stenosis of a carotid artery, carotid stenting can reduce the patient's risk of stroke. more
Carotid artery surgery can help with the following conditions:
-
Electrophysiology procedures for heart failure
schliessen

Over the past 10 years, electrophysiology procedures have gained recognition as a specialist treatment approach for patients with heart failure. more
Electrophysiology procedures for heart failure can help with the following conditions:
-
Vascular surgery
